Hijack colorful vehicles, plow down 8-bit patrons, and evade pesky cops with Retro City Rampage DX, recently released for Switch! Play through the classic story mode and complete a wide variety of side missions, or choose to freely roam the game’s wide open world instead. As you play, you’ll encounter countless pop cultural references from the 80s, 90s, and beyond, including nods to Back to the Future, The Dark Knight, Frogger, Mario and, of course, the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

STORY
In this fast-paced open world parody, you’ll play as Player, a thug living a life of crime. But during a routine bank heist, you’ll bump into a time-traveling phone booth and be transported into the future, where you’ll meet Doc Choc—a parody of Doc Emmet Brown from Back to the Future—in his DeLorean look-alike.

You and Doc Choc will then make your way to Doc’s house, where he’ll explain that he needs you to collect mechanical parts in order to get the time-traveling phone booth up and running again. And voila—you’ll be free to set off on your first mission in your quest to find the required parts!

GAMEPLAY
As you play, the game will teach you the required controls, which is super helpful—especially for players (like me) who are unfamiliar with retro GTA games. In other words, the game will gradually teach you how to hijack/enter a car, choose a weapon, use that weapon, jump, stomp on enemies, and more! Retro City Rampage DX also points to where you’re supposed to go when you’re trying to complete a mission, another feature that is helpful and appreciated.

Unless you’re working on a mission that requires a good deal of stealth and/or strategy, Retro City Rampage is all about chaos! As you roam around town on foot or in a hijacked vehicle, feel free to cause as much chaos as you like—but be at least a little bit careful, since you’re not working with unlimited health here.

You’ll run into quite a few quirks and surprises as you explore Theftropolis on foot, too, including a vending machine that helps your health, a Sixbucks Coffee shop next to a Pasta Gut restaurant, and a hair salon where you can pay a small fee to change your ’do! In short: whether you’re exploring Theftropolis on foot or in a stolen vehicle, you’re sure to have a good time.

And aside from exploring Theftropolis in story mode and in free mode, there’s plenty more to do, including quite a few challenges, unlockables, and collectibles. In Retro City Rampage DX for Switch, there’s always something to do, and the re-playability value is excellent.
CONCLUSION
With its super-cool chiptune soundtrack, colorful 8-bit graphics, and exciting, action-packed gameplay, we think you’ll love Retro City Rampage DX for Switch—especially since you can take it with you on the go! And at just $14.99 on the Nintendo eShop, it’s hard to find a better value. So download Retro City Rampage DX today, and have fun cruisin’ and bruisin’ around Theftropolis!
