SteamWorld Dig is a platform mining adventure that blends classics like Metroid and Dig Dug into a perfectly unique experience. You’ll play as Rusty, a steam-powered robot who’s just inherited his uncle’s mine. Guide Rusty through the mines to find precious gems, ore, and minerals; sell what you find for cash; then use your cash to level up, unlock new techniques, and upgrade your gear.
You’ll encounter three unique “levels” in the mines, each with unique themes and enemies. As you venture deeper into the mines, you’ll discover new “technology abilities,” like sprints and double-jumps, which often grant access to previously unreachable areas. And to add replayability, the order of the levels you encounter is procedurally generated each playthrough, so if you ever want to start a new file, you’ll experience the game in a whole new way.
As we’ve come to expect from the SteamWorld series, this game’s graphics and sound are top-notch. SteamWorld Dig looks gorgeous on Nintendo Switch and runs flawlessly, and the tunes you’ll hear pair perfectly with the gameplay, whether you’re walking through an old-western town or exploring the depths of the mine. Plus, the sound effects add perfect detail to your experience; you’ll feel like you’re deep in the mine when you hear the clink of your pick-axe striking stone!
Overall, SteamWorld Dig on Nintendo Switch is a real treat for a variety of players.
