The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition

The Talos Principle: Deluxe Edition is a first-person puzzler where you solve your way through ancient ruins featuring sci-fi defenses. This simulation will have you completing over 100 puzzles in a non-linear fashion, where you are attempting to discover the secrets behind the simulation you are traversing. With environmental storytelling and extremely subtle hints to what is going on, prepare yourself for an adventure of deep thought.

Featuring puzzles that range from fairly-simple, progression-based mazes to some that will absolutely blow your mind, The Talos Principle is equally enjoyable and frustrating at times. Some puzzles are quite complex, and with very few aids, you will regularly find yourself bashing your head against a wall trying to solve what’s in front of you. Luckily, the open-world nature allows you to move on when stumped, and even the toughest puzzles are fun to attempt, but if you’re easily aggravated or hate having to think too hard, then The Talos Principle might be tough to recommend.

Stories Untold

Stories Untold offers a chilling mix of four different stories where mechanics change from experience to experience. From text-based adventure gameplay to point-and-click, you will be mixing things up between the short stories told here. In what is described as “4 stories, 1 nightmare,” Stories Untold brings a unique, experimental twist to the genre that fans and newcomers alike will be curious to delve into. What secrets are lying beneath the surface?

If you’re someone who enjoys shows like Black Mirror or The Twilight Zone, then Stories Untold will offer some interesting interactive experiences right up your alley. While each story is exciting and intriguing in their own right, they tend to end just as they get good. A short experience, Stories Untold is perfect for someone looking for a spooky weekend excursion, but unless you already enjoy the more old-school base mechanics, you may find yourself disappointed with what’s on offer here.

Decay of Logos

Decay of Logos is an action-adventure title with RPG elements in the same model as The Legend of Zelda. With deep lore, voice acting, and a complex narrative, this experience features a tale of revenge following the destruction of the protagonist’s village at the hands of the vile Crimson Knights. Along with your mystical elk companion, travel the world as you attempt to find the truth behind the heinous attack while traversing ancient dungeons and a world filled with quests and rewards.

The premise of Decay of Logos is a good one. Interesting world and narrative, a good set of base ideas, and some obvious inspirations from arguably the best title on the platform, Breath of the Wild. Unfortunately, this port doesn’t seem like it’s even playable for a lot of the time. The visuals are bad, but the performance makes it so that you will regularly have no idea what’s going on around you, dropping frames at a rate worse than some of the very worst. Hopefully, a patch can alleviate things at some point, but based on the release date, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Road Redemption

Road Redemption is an action-packed, racing game that pits you against biker gangs and the police while making your way across the country to earn the bounty on a wayward assassin. Evoking the Sega Genesis release of Road Rash, Road Redemption is just as much about punching, kicking, and swinging weapons at the other racers as it is about beating them on the track. Offering online multiplayer, 2-player split-screen co-op, and an expandable skill tree, Road Redemption will bring you back to motorcycle combat of the 90s while offering modern accouterments.

Road Redemption feels more like a fighting game than a racing game, with full-on counters and critical strikes while atop your motorcycle. Because of the focus necessary to defeat your foes in hand-to-hand combat, the racing takes a backseat, while also becoming a bit of a chore to pay attention to. Needing to win the race while also beating up the baddies is tough to balance, but if you can multitask and really enjoy a unique fighting title, then Road Redemption is a cool return of a long-abandoned genre that feels good outside of the cumbersome load placed on the player in terms of keeping your placement while also staying upright in fights.

Creature in the Well

As one of the more uncommon amalgamations of the genre, Creature in the Well is a top-down, pinball-inspired, hack-and-slash dungeon crawler. As you travel deeper on a quest to restore power to an ancient facility, you will gather more and more powerful items in order to only for further progress, as well as a way to stop the sandstorm currently plaguing the city of Mirage. Classified as “pinball with swords”, Creature in the Well shows the interesting take on gaming that indies can offer, simply through the premise presented.

With that being said, Creature in the Well is also a ton of fun. As one of the more capable dungeon crawlers on the platform, this title will keep you coming back for more, even with how weird its playstyle is. The only real downside is the difficulty, which can be frustrating at times as long delves back to reclaim your body get tougher and tougher as you progress through the game. For anyone who loves a challenge or something totally out of left field, Creature in the Well will be a must-play for you.
