ColorWare is an industry leader in custom painted electronics. They offer everything from custom painted gaming consoles, controllers, headphones, and computers, to phone cases and speakers.
The Joy Con Classic was a limited run of extra special custom painted Joy-Con controllers, complete with gray straps, designed to look like the original NES!
The vibrant, glossy red buttons burst out from the matte black and gray base, and feel absolutely authentic. It is obvious that ColorWare put an immense amount of effort into making these feel like the original product.
ColorWare was founded on the idea that electronic devices could be more appealing than the standard colors offered by the original manufacturer. ColorWare products are creative and fashionable, giving their customers something unique that sets them apart from all the rest.
The Joy-Con Classic was a limited run, but ColorWare offers a wide variety of different products available for customization. Customizing your own controller is quick and easy! You’re able to select from glossy or matte solids and metallics with a set of pre-made “Designer’s Choice” color combinations available as well.
At ColorWare, quality control is rigorous. Great care is taken throughout every step of the process to ensure the highest level of quality from start to finish. Each ColorWare product is disassembled by hand from the original manufacturer. Once the product is disassembled, all parts are compartmentalized. Then the product is hand sprayed with a base coat. Once painted, It is baked at a low temperature to ensure the item dries thoroughly and evenly. Finally, the product is given an X2 coating that is also hand sprayed. This coating is a proprietary, scratch resistant, liquid plastic. The product is again baked, then polished and detailed and sent back to the production area for reassembly.
Customizing a device comes at a pretty steep cost. The Limited Classic Joy-Con were $200, but a custom Pro Controller is only $129 (which seems like a much better deal). We’ve been using the Joy-Con over the past couple weeks and haven’t found any issues with them whatsoever. ColorWare is an American company that prides itself on quality products. Can’t possibly recommend them more!

Andrew has been a nerd his whole life. He built his first computer when he was 8, started working in the IT industry at 15, and played competitive Counter-Strike at 16. His interest in amiibo started before their release but didn’t really take off until after the new year. He doesn’t like to admit it but Little Mac and WFT are among the amiibo that he had pre-ordered from Amazon but cancelled before their release. Little did he know a few months later he’d help start Amiibo Alerts. Gaming has always been his passion. He grew up with an NES, Sega Genesis, and PS2 before realizing that PCs truly are better than consoles.
The urge to be a little better, brought on by being a gamer, is what pushes him to help make Amiibo Alerts and Nintendeal amazing communities. Together with the team he has built, he is realizing a life-long dream: bringing something helpful and fun to a large group of people. Andrew’s role at Amiibo Alerts and Nintendeal as Founder and Editor in Chief allows him to create and build contacts within the community, review and present products, and stay on top of all things Nintendo.
