A new report suggests that Nintendo is looking to release a smaller more affordable version of the Switch as early as April of 2019.
According to Japanese publication Nikkei, Nintendo is looking in to “miniaturizing the console with portability and playing outdoors in mind, as well as cutting features to reduce the price and expand the userbase.”
The current Switch console is a docking version with detachable Joy-Cons that retails for $299. A newer, smaller version may lose the functionality of television docking and have built-in controls. At this point any design modifications are merely speculation on the part of users and video game experts, as Nintendo has yet to make comments on the Nikkei report (and likely never will).
A few years back when game analysts speculated on the release of a mini version of the Switch, comments were made about the functionality of the device as a handheld for its younger users. The Switch with its attached Joy-Cons can be a bit bulky for smaller hands measuring at 6.2in versus the 3DS XL that measures at 4.88in.
If a new mini version of the Switch were to be released what would you like to see that differs from the current version? If you already own a Switch would you also consider buying the newer portable version?

Brie likes to game, and by game she means mash on the buttons and holler at the TV. She is, however, very competitive and will trash talk you ruthlessly even if she doesn’t know what she’s doing. Probably best for her to stick to collaborative games on game night.
