During a visit to a YMCA in London Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, called for a ban on the popular game “Fortnite.” The purpose of the visit was to speak with metal health experts about addictive games and social media, and the negative affects on youth. According to statements by the Duke, Epic Games’ Fornite is especially harmful, saying “It’s created to addict, and addiction to keep you in front of the computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible.”
Epic Games was recently the target of a lawsuit regarding, what was called predatory and exploitative tactics regarding the representation of the Fortnite loot boxes aka Llamas. Next month “gaming disorder” is anticipated to be added to the International Classification of Diseases at the World Health Assembly.
Prince Harry warned against the dangers of reliance on social media to foster connection. The Duke offers parents encouragement to act and have their children connect more with the outside world. “Without that human connection, when you do have a problem you have nowhere to go,” he stressed. “The only place you might go is online and you will probably end up getting bullied.”
Brie likes to game, and by game she means mash on the buttons and holler at the TV. She is, however, very competitive and will trash talk you ruthlessly even if she doesn’t know what she’s doing. Probably best for her to stick to collaborative games on game night.
