Nintendo has revealed that they will be bringing two different tournaments to their E3 2018 presentation, in the form of the Super Smash Bros. Invitational and Splatoon 2 World Championship. While the Splatoon 2 World Championship will feature qualified teams, the Super Smash Bros. tourney will bring specific, invited players to be the first to try the game out on the Nintendo Switch platform. The tournaments will be livestreamed, and run June 11-12, meaning it they will start one day before the actual showcase begins on the 12th.
If you’d like to try and make it in to the Splatoon 2 World Championship, Nintendo has made it an open invite, dubbing it Inkling Open 2018. You can register through this site (if you’re US/Canada), and will need a team of four, plus one alternate, to compete. The competition will run from April 21-28, and will be using Turf War first, followed by Ranked Battle modes for the finals. Japan, Europe, and Australia all have their own respective regions as well.

Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, commented on the events, saying:
Nintendo always takes an original approach to video game competitions, and the portability of Nintendo Switch enables unique gameplay possibilities. We’re looking forward to watching some of the best players in the world test their skills against each other in these two uniquely competitive games.
This is the first real announcement regarding Nintendo at E3 2018, and they promise that more information will be announced at a later date. If you were one of the lucky few invited to the Smash tournament, feel free to reach out to us about coverage of the tournaments during E3. We’d love to be able to partner with some of the community!
