After a slew of rumors and speculation, the long-awaited Nintendo Direct for January 11 did indeed happen, albeit in a “mini” format. The 14-minute video presentation spotlighted many 1st and 3rd party games to be released in the first third of 2018, along with DLC for numerous titles.
The games announced are as follows: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Kirby Star Allies, Dark Souls: Remastered, The World Ends With You: Final Remix, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, Payday 2, Fe, Celeste, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, SNK HEROINES ~Tag Team Frenzy~, and Mario Tennis Aces.
The Direct also provided information regarding the first Super Mario Odyssey DLC, featuring a new game mode title “Balloon World,” along with new outfits, plus the addition of Luigi in the new mode. Pokkén Tournament DX is also getting two updates, releasing in waves, both featuring new fighters in Aegislash and Blastoise, with new Supporting Pokémon Mega Rayquaza, Mimikyu, Mew, and Celebi. The last order of DLC to be revealed was regarding Mario + Rabbids Battle Kingdom, in the form a new character, Donkey Kong, complete with a new storyline and map.
Lastly, new demoes were also revealed to download: Kirby: Battle Royale is now available on the 3DS eShop, while Dragon Quest Builders can be downloaded on the Switch eShop.
