As of today, we have learned that Nintendo has applied for new image trademarks, consisting of two for each of the following franchises: amiibo, The Legend of Zelda, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing. The big N also filed for standard character trademarks for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Pokemori (Pocket Camp) and Marika (Mario Kart abbreviation).
Yet the biggest surprise might be the image trademark filed for the Super Smash Bros. franchise. The images can be seen below.

For those unfamiliar, trademarks, once registered, represent particular products using images, text, or logos, all being found on the products themselves. The trademark owner then has sole legal control and protections of the aforementioned trademarks.
All that being said, this could signal the first time we get some insight on just how Nintendo is approaching the next Smash Bros. iteration. Products are generally the first step in marketing something, and we certainly hope that the new images (pending approval) signal a step forward for the franchise.
What are your thoughts on any of the new products that could come from these?
