Nintendo UK has confirmed that the Switch version of Bayonetta 2 will be compatible with certain amiibo similar to the Wii U version.
The Bayonetta 2 page on Nintendo UK’s website states that “By tapping in compatible amiibo (sold separately), you can instantly unlock a number of Nintendo-themed costumes**** for Bayonetta to wear, weapons to use and more!” It appears the Switch verison may simply carry over the amiibo functionality that was in the Wii U version, although there is no clear indication if there will be any new or removed amiibo unlockables. Since the release of Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U, Nintendo has also released two Bayonetta amiibo for use with Super Smash Bros. While it is not confirmed, it would not be too surprising for either Bayonetta amiibo to have some form of functionality in the Switch version.
Those who don’t own amiibo shouldn’t fear missing out on any content. Nintendo UK also says in a note on the amiibo functionality that “****These costumes can also be acquired without amiibo as you progress through the game.”
Bayonetta 2 releases on February 16 for Nintendo Switch and is available for pre-order now. Fans in Europe or Japan can also preorder the special edition, which includes a steelbook case and a download code for Bayonetta 1 along with some other goodies. NA fans can choose to import the special edition, or follow Nintendeal to be the first to know if it gets a release in North America.
